I serve as the Coordinator of Outreach and Special Initiatives for the LSU College of Science Office of Academic Innovation & Engagement. This involves managing outreach and student development programs within the office; assisting the Associate Dean in developing project plans for grants; leading event coordination for science outreach, student leadership development, external speakers, staff development, and other related activities; monitoring the budget and project spending on accounts; and managing communications for the office.
I am passionate about getting people excited about science and broadening participation in the natural sciences. A goal of mine is to provide opportunities for people to connect with science and inspire them to understand, value, and pursue science. I want to plan activities that not only entertain but also teach valuable skills, such as critical thinking and problem solving. I think informal education and outreach programs, such as those implemented through museums, zoos, or university programs have a significant role to play in society. They invoke a natural curiosity that leaves people open to learn. As a science outreach coordinator, I hope to channel that curiosity and inspire the next generation of scientists.
