I serve as the Coordinator of Outreach and Special Initiatives for the LSU College of Science Office of Diversity and Inclusion. This involves managing outreach and student support activities within the science diversity office; assisting the Associate Dean in developing project plans for grants; leading event coordination for science outreach, student leadership development, external speakers, staff development, and other related activities; monitoring the budget and project spending on accounts; and managing communications for the office.
I am passionate about getting people excited about science and broadening participation in the natural sciences. A goal of mine is to provide opportunities for people to connect with science and inspire them to understand, value, and pursue science. I want to plan activities that not only entertain but also teach valuable skills, such as critical thinking and problem solving. I think informal education and outreach programs, such as those implemented through museums, zoos, or university programs have a significant role to play in society. They invoke a natural curiosity that leaves people open to learn. As a science outreach coordinator, I hope to channel that curiosity and inspire the next generation of scientists.
